Josiah Thugwane was the first Black South African athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in 1996.

He was born on the 15th April 1971 in Bethal, Mpumalanga. Coming from humble beginnings, having no schooling, yet he rose to become an internationally celebrated & respected athlete.
